Kingdom Hearts fans are fighting the claims that Kairi doesn't do much in the series by making her playable in the Final Mix release of the first game in the series.
If you've been a fan of Kingdom Hearts for long enough (god bless you soldier, I'm here too), then you've likely heard the argument that Kairi is useless and spends most of her time waiting for other characters or getting kidnapped. I could point you towards multiple scenes throughout the series that disprove this notion and show that she's actually one of its most important heroes, but a recent mod for Final Mix is making that point for me.
Over on the Kingdom Hearts subreddit, one of the most popular posts over the last few days comes from waldesnachtbrahms, who shared a gif pointing out that a playable Kairi mod is now available for the first Kingdom Hearts. The Reddit post doesn't specify which one is being referred to, but it appears to be this Final Mix mod from Nexus Mods creator Napstio.
The mod in question has actually been around for a few months now, but has seemingly only just been noticed and given its deserved praise very recently.
As you can see from the video above, the mod swaps out Sora's model with Kairi's and lets her be the hero of the story instead of spending most of it catatonic and without a heart. This is more than just a simple model swap, however, as the mod also uses some of Kairi's voice lines from Kingdom Hearts 3 while she fights.
Considering the first Kingdom Hearts is now 20 years old, it's pretty surprising to learn that it's taken this long to get Kairi playable in the first game with mods, but it's certainly been done justice here as Kairi looks like a natural as she takes on Ansem with the Kingdom Key. She might be
