We just got our first proper look at Lady Gaga's take on Harley Quinn, as photos emerge from the set of Joker: Folie à Deux. They show her in a brand new Harley outfit, although one that's still very much inspired by her comic book costumes.
While these aren't the first-ever images of Gaga playing Harley, they are the first that show her in the makeup and costume associated with the character. The snaps also tell us that the film won't be afraid to lean into her more flamboyant wardrobe, rather than tone it down for live action.

As we can see in the pictures, the outfit is flashy and full of Harley Quinn symbolism - while still trying to hold onto a sense of professionalism. It's the perfect way to sum up Harley in the midst of her transformation from Dr. Harleen Quinzel, as she hasn't totally abandoned her own identity in favour of dedicating herself to the Joker. But it's still safe to say her path to villainy is set at this point in the film.
What's also of note is how much this differs from Margot Robbie's wardrobe in the films where she plays Harley. In Birds of Prey in particular, she dresses very creatively and carefree, better suiting her mood after she left the Joker's crew. Gaga's look, however, is much more like a uniform, right down to her circus-themed makeup.
Joker: Folie à Deux won't be with us until 2024, so we probably won't get a much better look at the character for some time. Filming has just begun, however, so we might get a few more sneak peeks at the sets as production rolls on. But for now, all we can do is overanalyse Lady Gaga and see where that gets us.
