Update: As expected, the review bombing effort targeted at Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores has taken a darker turn this weekend, and the release now sits at a Metacritic user rating of 2.8 with an overwhelming number of negative scores. It’s likely to fall harder throughout the day, as an outspoken minority continues to wage war with the release.
Original Article: Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores has received a very strong critical reception – we gave it an 8/10 for starters – but the expansion is currently getting review bombed on Metacritic. Despite attracting an incredibly positive 81 rating from reviewers, the user score is currently at 4.8 and dropping, with significantly more negative reviews than positive ones.
Some people are criticising the gameplay and content of the expansion, while others feel aggrieved the DLC’s not available on PS4, but most of the complaints appear to revolve around a plot development that occurs towards the end of the DLC. If you want to avoid spoilers, then we’d recommend you don’t read the reviews, however if you’re curious you can learn a little more about what transpires through here.
Obviously this is just a vocal minority and is unlikely to negatively impede the success of the expansion, but we imagine the DLC’s user rating is going to drop even harder over the weekend, as more people finish it and come to share their opinion on it. We doubt developer Guerrilla Games will be discouraged by the backlash, but expect this topic to dominate discussion in the lead up to the inevitable Horizon 3.
