Side-scrolling shoot ’em ups are almost as old as gaming itself, making it easy to think that they’re long obsolete. With the launch of R-Type Final 3 Evolved on PS5 though, NIS America seems out to prove that’s not the case. With new features taking advantage of the likes of VR, there may yet be new ways for fans to barrel through hordes of enemies in an impossibly-armed vehicle.

Building on what was done in R-Type Final 2, R-Type Final 3 Evolved adds at least seven new stages, new aircraft, and a new online social space called “R-Park.” A newly online-enabled Competition mode and VR support for the aircraft launch sequence at the start of a stage have also been added. Those interested can pick up R-Type Final 3 Evolved digitally on the PS Store or grab special physical edition on NIS America’s store page. This special edition includes the deluxe version of the game, a 2-disc soundtrack and an R-9A Arrowhead keychain light.
