FromSoftware has much on its plate this year, like the mech action title Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (rumored to launch on August 25th). However, it’s also working on the first paid expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree. Announced last February, the developer hasn’t provided any more details, aside from some concept art with a dark Erdtree and what seems to be Miquella.
However, the expansion has seemingly been in development longer than many would believe. Ziostorm on Twitter spotted the LinkedIn profile for Kenneth (Kin Yue) Chan, lead game designer and design manager on Elden Ring and producer/co-director for Armored Core 6. They’re also the lead game designer/design manager of Shadow of the Erdtree (previously listed as an “unannounced project”) as of April 2022.
That’s less than two months after the game launched, though pre-production was likely happening earlier. While this doesn’t indicate the expansion’s size or how close the release is, rumors claim it will launch after Armored Core 6. So it could arrive late this year if not early 2024.
Time will tell, so stay tuned for more details. Elden Ring is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
A new LinkedIn post appears to show that Elden Ring DLC has been in development since at least April 2022. Indicating over a year of development for Shadow of the Erdtree so far. This is updated from a section that said «unannounced project» back in March. – VERY Interesting… pic.twitter.com/9XWQ1r3r9g
