NIS America has just released a demo for Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook today on PlayStation and Switch. Should they give it a try, players will have the opportunity to craft their adventurers, cook up some food and see what life in the Sealed Lands is going to be like. It’s supposedly a dungeon for rookie adventurers, but it seems that that doesn’t mean it’s going to be an easy clear.
With Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook, Nippon Ichi Software is mixing a number of new systems into the classic dungeon crawler formula. For starters, there’s a survival element to progressing through the dungeon. Every action the adventurers take will cause either their hunger or thirst to increase. If they become too hungry or thirsty, then they won’t be able to do much of anything. Player’s are going to have to keep them supplied with regular meals or even have them eat an enemy if it comes down to it.
Defeat also carries some consequences to it in Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook. If the party’s leader dies, players are sent back to the beginning of the dungeon and all EXP and materials are lost. Equipment and recipes are maintained though, so players will still have an edge upon starting the next run. Roguelite systems can be hit or miss, so those interested would definitely do well to take advantage of the demo before the full game releases on May 23.
