If there’s one thing robots do well it’s fight other robots. Sometimes its hand to hand, other times ranged with missiles and lasers, and every now and then they take to the courts for a little 2-on-2 basketball. Or at least a basketball-like competition involving heavy explosives and dunks from the edge of space, because robots are programmed not to lose and winning is much easier when the opposing team is dodging an AI turret’s firepower. RoboDunk is a fast, colorful, and frequently explosive take on NBA Jam, and with this week’s Steam Sports Fest it’s released a free game mode in the form of RoboDunk Prologue.
In the normal (and demo) version of the game you play through one face-off after another in a quest to be the champion, buying permanent upgrades and new members of the robo-roster between matches to get a few more dunks closer to victory. RoboDunk Prologue, however, is a little different, in that it’s an exclusive standalone game mode where you face off against the Robot Masters. You can tackle them in any order but, MegaMan style, you earn their special ability after a win and can use it in the next match-up. The court can turn into pure chaos in the normal game, and the new abilities aren’t going to make the action any saner.
RoboDunk Prologue is available now and for the duration of the Steam Sports Fest. It’s time to grab a friend or three and tear up the court while the Robot Masters are still available, but even if you miss the window of availability the demo is forever.
