Remedy Entertainment has reiterated a number of times that Alan Wake 2 is going to launch this year, and even though we’ve yet to see anything of the game beyond its cinematic reveal trailer, it seems like it’s continuing to make fast and steady progress behind the scenes.
In a recently published quarterly fiscal report, Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala provided updates on how development is progressing on the studio’s upcoming titles, and confirmed that Alan Wake 2 has entered the final leg of development as it gears up to release later this year. Earlier this year, the studio confirmed that the game had progressed enough to be fully playable from start to finish.
“Alan Wake 2 is on its way to becoming a great game and has everyone excited at Remedy,” he said. “We have started the last major phase of full production to get the game ready for launch later this year.”
Virtala added that though Alan Wake 2 is currently fully staffed, as it approaches the finish line, Remedy will start scaling back the size of its development team and start moving people over to the studio’s other projects.
“The project is fully staffed, but we will be able to start scaling down the team size gradually as we progress towards the launch,” he said. “These freed-up developers will contribute to our other game projects that are being driven towards the next stages of development.”
In the report, Virtala provided updates on the development of Control and Condor, as well as the upcoming remake of Max Payne 1 and 2.
Alan Wake 2 is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
