We already knew HBO’s critically acclaimed adaptation of The Last of Us was big, but new numbers from parent company Warner Bros Discovery put things into perspective. According to an earnings report, in the US, the show is averaging around 32 million viewers per episode. That’s not all: in Europe and Latin America it’s the most-watched HBO Max show of all time.
This enormous success, alongside shows like Succession, propelled the service to 97.6 million subscribers by the end of March 2023, and turned a profit for the business overall. Obviously, HBO Max will be eager for the second season of The Last of Us to arrive as soon as possible, although we imagine it’ll be a few more years before we all get to watch that.
