Miles Morales has never been one to completely shatter the fourth wall, but he does occasionally show off his gamer cred. An upcoming variant cover for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #9 reveals his love for Capcom titles with a pose that mirrors Vergil from the Devil May Cry Series.
We get a preview of the variant cover courtesy of illustrator Mateus Manhanini, who posted the new cover over on Twitter. "Long time no see, Miles!" Manhanini wrote. "My Miles Morales: Spider-Man #9 Variant Cover, on sale August 09, 2023."

As noted by Twitter user SMGold_, Miles’ pose is exactly the same as Vergil’s from promotional art for Devil May Cry 5. That’s the one where he’s staring at the camera drawing his sword, Yamato. It’s also the same pose chosen for his official statuette from Prime 1 Studio, which weighs over ten kilos and stands almost 60 cm tall. They’re definitely conversation starters if you could afford the $1,200 price tag.
A thread over on ResetEra notes that this isn't the first time Miles has paid tribute to a Capcom character. In Marvel's Contest of Champions, Miles' "flurry of blows" move is essentially the same as Chun-Li's countless kicks, her iconic move from the Street Fighter series. It seems Miles is a true Capcom fan. He might already be in on the Street Fighter 6 demo.
Of course, that very same ResetEra thread notes that Vergil's pose is hardly unique. Geralt makes a very similar pose in promotional art for The Witcher 3. That sort of ruins the "Miles is a Capcom fan" theory, but I don't think it's too out of character for him to also be a Witcher fan.
