Terrestrial factories may be the standard but that’s not the most practical location. They’re huge and smelly, neither of which are problems in space, and large masses of product are much easier to manipulate once planetary gravity isn’t acting as an unneeded force. Final Factory is an upcoming automation game set in the vast reaches of space, setting players free to mine asteroids and stars to create an intergalactic network of production and supply chains. The universe holds more resources than a species could ever stand a chance of depleting, after all, so there’s no reason to hold back aside from the alien Vek, who have very strong opinions about humanity’s expansion out of its home solar system.
While Final Factory’s release is still several months off it’s received a large demo today to give players a foothold in its automation universe. The primary focus is on building up an efficient set of interconnected manufacturing systems, but there’s also some fleet management and bullet-hell combat thrown in to spice things up as the Vek try to stop humanity’s expansion. For those wanting a more pure factory game, though, the pacifist mode lets you get to automating and exploring the stellar network without worrying about being attacked. The demo promises a 25(ish) hour campaign, which sounds like a lot unless you’ve played factory games before, but it should be fun to see just how far along the tech tree that goes. The Final Factory demo is available now on Steam, so feel free to dive in and see just how efficient you can make the factories of space.
