Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has been calling all sightings of flying bugs "propaganda" spread by anti-democracy malcontents, but one footsoldier spotted a flying Charger while on a mission to seal Terminid holes.
The Shriekers are real, even if Arrowhead swears they're not. Swarms of them will descend on you at break-neck speed and put an end to your bravado quicker than a misplaced orbital strike from a careless teammate. But the flying Chargers aren't.
As shown in a video by LoSouLibra on the game's subreddit, a Shrieker glitched into a Charger and made it look like it had wings, before flying it a short distance away. So, luckily, it's a bug and not a feature. Let's just hope it stays that way and that Arrowhead doesn't get any ideas from this clip.
Shriekers are giant winged enemies that were recently, and quietly, added to the game, no doubt as planned by the war master Joel who is spinning this intergalactic conflict's wheels from behind the curtain.
They've proven a tricky opponent for the community, yet some want to see actual winged Chargers added to the game in light of this video. They're bad enough as is without wings.
"That is glorious," NihilZeroNihil commented. "Now I really want flying Chargers to be a thing."
"But the armour is inversed and they have the protection in the bottom part and the weak point in the upper part," MuglokDecrepitus suggested. At this point, the Automatons are starting to sound appealing.
In the latest patch notes, under "Known Issues", there's no mention of Shriekers wedging themselves into other enemies and flying them, but with the Reddit post blowing up among the community, it's only a matter of time before Arrowhead takes notice. Just ignore the comments asking for it to be a feature, yeah?
Thankfully, a patch from earlier this month buffed the flamethrower and made it incredibly effective against these giant bruisers, so if you see one take flight, burn it. Kill it with fire.
