Fans of the supernatural first-person action-adventure Ghostwire: Tokyo can pick up a new gift in-game for free. Developer Tango Gameworks and publisher Bethesda promoted the freebie to commemorate the Ghostwire: Tokyo second anniversary.
Ghostwire: Tokyo merited positive reviews when it was released on PC and PS5 in 2022, thanks to its unique atmosphere and flashy magical gameplay that used expressive hand signs derived from Japanese Shugendo gestures. That said, much of the game's initial attention grew from its publishing circumstances, which saw Bethesda respecting a preexisting deal with Sony despite its merger with Microsoft, making them technically Xbox-published games that were exclusive to Sony's console for an extended period of time. The Xbox Series X|S version of Ghostwire: Tokyo launched in April 2023, but its early reception there was marred by performance issues.
With Ghostwire: Tokyo celebrating its second anniversary on March 25, 2024, Tango Gameworks commemorated the occasion with a new freebie for all players. The freebie is a simple one, consisting of a special commemorative 2-Year Anniversary frame and stamp for use in the photo mode. Many players use the game's photo mode because of Ghostwire: Tokyo has a uniquely complex game world based on real-life urban scenery, making it a prime location to shoot stunning game-based photos with.
The simple addition was enough to bring Ghostwire: Tokyo back to its fans' attention, and the promotion's reception on social media was largely positive. Most fans simply wished the studio well and replied with calls for a sequel. Some fans reminisced about Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami, who left the studio in 2023 and participated in Ghostwire: Tokyo's development.
Some fans did express some frustration with Ghostwire: Tokyo on the eve of its anniversary, though, lamenting that Tango Gameworks didn't seem to have any public plans to develop Ghostwire: Tokyo further with DLC additions. Others warned potential
