NVIDIA released a new Game Ready driver (version 536.62) for its GeForce graphics cards today. The driver delivers optimizations for many different products, starting with the newly released Portal: Prelude RTX and the upcoming games Remnant II (developed by Gunfire Games and due on July 25th with DLSS 2) and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (developed by Insomniac/Nixxes and due on July 26th with DLSS 2, DLSS 3, DLAA).
Moreover, it provides the best performance when using RTX IO and Microsoft DirectStorage in Portal: Prelude RTX and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, respectively. The latter will be, as previously covered, the first DirectStorage 1.2 game with support for GPU-based decompression.
Bryan Langley, Group Program Manager for Windows Graphics and Gaming, said in a statement:
Microsoft is delighted to partner with NVIDIA to bring the benefits of next-generation I/O to Windows gamers. DirectStorage for Windows will enable games to leverage NVIDIA’s cutting-edge RTX IO and provide game developers with a highly efficient and standard way to get the best possible performance from the GPU and I/O system. With DirectStorage, game sizes are minimized, load times reduced, and virtual worlds are free to become more expansive and detailed, with smooth and seamless streaming.
This Game Ready driver is also optimized for the upcoming RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. NVIDIA noted that partners like ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, Galax, Gigabyte, INNO3D, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac will begin selling the 16GB version of the RTX 4060 Ti starting this month. While the performance is extremely similar, NVIDIA said a 'handful' of games should be played at 'High' settings on the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB and 'Ultra' settings on the RTX 4060Ti 16GB.
