Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has stated DLC is now something under consideration at Square Enix as the company looks to support its latest title after launch. Prior to last month's launch, Yoshida described the experience as a «one-off game» that would only be built upon if «players around the world want to see more of» Clive and the world of Valisthea. The change in tune suggests Yoshida has heard fans' cries for more, then.
In a recent interview with GamerBraves, Yoshida explained: «As you know, going into Final Fantasy XVI, the one thing we wanted to create was a full complete story, something that you can enjoy from beginning to end, 100 per cent without any DLC, and I think we were able to do that. But now we understand we're getting feedback from players that have played the game, and lots of players want to see more, and we know that and understand that. For us, we're taking that and then thinking about our options moving forward. So hopefully in the future, we can have something that we can give to you all.»
DLC has become more common for the Final Fantasy series over the past few entries, with the Final Fantasy XV story stretched across four expansions and then Final Fantasy VII Remake receiving further plot treatment in new content focused on Yuffie. However, since Square Enix has only just gotten around to considering DLC, it's going to be quite some time before we actually see it should any extra content be given the green light.
In our Final Fantasy 16 PS5 review, we awarded the game a 9/10 and called it the series' proper return to form. «It's pretty much the pinnacle of cinematic spectacle in modern games, and its often gripping, emotional story is only matched by its fantastic combat system.
