Square Enix is considering how to approach potential Final Fantasy 16 DLC.
That’s according to producer Naoki Yoshida, who was asked if the company has plans for DLC during an interview with GamerBraves.
Yoshida said the development team’s main goal was to provide an experience that could be enjoyed standalone without the need for DLC, but that having done so, he’s aware of demand for additional content from fans.
“As you know, going into Final Fantasy 16, the one thing we wanted was to create a full complete story, something that you can enjoy beginning to end 100% without any DLC, and I think we were able to do that,” he said.
“But now we understand we’re getting feedback from players that have played the game and a lot of players want to see more, and we know that and understand that.
“For us, we’re taking that and then thinking about our options moving forward so hopefully in the near future we can have something that we can give to you all.”
PS5 exclusive Final Fantasy 16 moved three million copies within a week of its release in June, according to publisher Square Enix.
The figure means it’s roughly in line with Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s launch. The PS4 game shifted around 3.5 million copies in 10 days following its April 2020 release.
2016’s PS4 and Xbox One release Final Fantasy 15 is the fastest-selling entry in the long-running series, with five million units shipped and sold digitally on its first day.
