Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 4 has found itself back at the top of sales charts in Europe, almost nine years after the game's original release. Fallout 4 has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to the success of the Fallout TV adaptation.
The hype for the Fallout franchise is the highest it has been for years. When the Fallout TV adaptation was first announced, fans of the franchise reacted cautiously. It's a series with a very specific tone, and bringing that to screen was seen as an extremely difficult task, especially with the amount of bad-to-mediocre adaptations seen over the years. However, it stuck the landing, and as a result, the entire Fallout series is getting a big player count boost. It seems that according to sales figures, Fallout 4 is getting a bigger increase than the rest of the series.
In charts released by GamesIndustry.biz, Fallout 4 stands at the top of the European weekly top ten list, which includes physical and digital sales of games across retail stores as well as Steam, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo Eshop. This represents a sales increase of 7,500% for Fallout 4, beating out titles like Helldivers 2, EA Sports FC 24, and Grand Theft Auto 5 to the number one spot. In total, 69% of these sales came on PC, with a massive number of players hopping in amid the critical success of the Fallout TV adaptation.
However, it's not just Fallout 4 that has benefitted massively over the past week. The top ten list also includes Fallout 76, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 3 in eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively. While the general interest in the franchise at the moment is behind this kind of increase, it can also be attributed to the ongoing discounts of Fallout titles, which makes it easier for those coming from the TV show to hop in and explore what the games have to offer.
Despite the success of the Fallout TV show, it seems as though players will have to settle for playing the older titles for the foreseeable future.
