Kingmakers asks a simple question: What if a guy with a gun and a truck were dropped into Medieval England? The result is something like Dynasty Warriors, but with real-time strategy and simulation elements in addition to pure action. It's an odd but compelling mix.
Kingmakers' announcement trailer was a hit, garnering hundreds of thousands of view on IGN and other channels. More than a few fans compared it to Gate, an anime that features a similar mix of modern warfare and medieval fantasy. Now you can see even more Kingmakers footage in this new trailer released exclusively for IGN Fan Fest 2024.
In this trailer we get a closer look at some of the simulation elements, including how it transitions seamlessly from an overhead perspective to on-the-ground combat. And wait, is that an attack helicopter?
Developed by tinyBuild [Pathologic 2, Punch Club], Kingmakers features a soldier who travels back to Medieval England hoping to "change the course of a bloody war" to avert the apocalyse. According to the official release, it will be a "fully real-time simulation with thousands of soldiers fighting simultaneously" utilizing "next-gen multi-threaded AI."
Kingmakers' weapons will include "assault rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, armored SUVs, bikes, attack helicopters, airstrikes," and you will be able to direct medieval troopers as well. Kingmakers will feature both solo and co-op gameplay.
We don't have a proper release date for Kingmakers yet, but it will be available in Early Access sometime in 2024. In the meantime, check out the rest of our Fan Fest 2024 coverage, including a first look at Spiderwick Chronicles, our big Elden Ring interview, and more.
