Summer Game Fest will return in June, it’s been confirmed.
Producer Geoff Keighley has announced that the show will return as an in-person event on June 7, 2024.
The show, which will feature “thousands of in-person fans,” will again be broadcast from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
“Get a glimpse at what’s next in video games,” reads the announcement.
Fans can sign up at Summergamefest.com for updates on the show, and how to attend in person.
Day of the Devs: SGF Edition will be presented online via livestream immediately following the Summer Game Fest live showcase on June 7.
SGF Play Days, an invite-only media and influencer event in downtown Los Angeles, will return on June 8 – 10, produced by iam8bit.
Summer Game Fest 2023 featured several new game announcements over the course of its two-hour runtime, including Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Sonic Superstars.
It also featured the first Alan Wake 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay, the announcement of Spider-Man 2’s release date, plus a new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer and details.
The show was followed by Day of the Devs, an indie presentation showing off 15 interesting games from around the world, and after that came the latest comedy presentation from Devolver Digital.
Several major publishers also chose to hold product showcases coinciding with Summer Game Fest, including Microsoft (Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct), Ubisoft (Ubisoft Forward) and Capcom (Capcom Showcase).
The event now has the spotlight to itself as the industry’s premier June showcase, since The Entertainment Software Association confirmed in December that E3, which began in the 1990s, won’t be coming back.
Following last year’s SGF, Keighley acknowledged a lack of representation at the show.
In an interview with CBC, event producer and host Keighley said Melanie Liburd, the actor who plays Alan Wake 2’s co-lead protagonist Saga Anderson, was due to take part in the show but ultimately couldn’t because of scheduling conflicts.
