Clockwork Labs has announced that BitCraft will begin its closed alpha on April 4th. The team revealed the news along with the survival crafting MMORPG’s first official gameplay trailer.
BitCraft is a sandbox that emphasizes player choices, cooperation, and other familiar elements of survival games, like hunting, farming, and of course, crafting. In the new trailer, we get to see all of these elements come together, with introductions to the main mechanics, as well as a view around the world, a peek at building, and some of the inhabitants and environments. All this is set to new music, which give a taste of what's to come.
The game has beenin pre-alpha for a while, as the devs worked to build it out, but also to shape the experience. Through pre-alpha and earlier closed tests, some of the elements they’ve added or changed include a sense of lore to the world, and ways to emphasize a sense of interdependence and encourage wider cooperation and interaction.
This is very intentional, as the team describes the game this way:“BitCraft is the first large scale Survival Crafting MMORPG. Work with thousands of other players to rebuild civilization in a single, massive, unsharded world”
The closed alpha test should help them to continue that work as more people get the chance to step into the world. Even in the trailer, there is a section that says “rebuild civilization”, and shows a village building up. It grows larger, the buildings taller, and continues.
Of course, it’s also noticeable that the people we see, including during the look at character creation, have glowing eyes and sometimes glowing lines on their faces. This too seems like a hint at that lore. Under the caption “Meet unique travelers, the next we see is a figure in what looks like a horned helmet with glowing spots (or are those eyes?) reading something.
BitCraft, now subtitled Age of Automata, is still taking signups for alpha. Find out more here.
