ComingSoon is excited to debut an exclusive Conclave video featuring Ralph Fiennes talking about his character to celebrate the launch of the hit drama coming out on Blu-ray and DVD today. It’s also available on digital and will become available to own on 4K UHD on February 11, 2025. The home release features never-before-seen extras, including interviews with the extraordinary cast and filmmakers.
“Just as a human being, Lawrence is interesting. He’s a man. He’s a little at war within himself, or he certainly has contradictions within himself. He would like, I think, to be in a more monastic way of life, and he’s the dean of the Vatican. He’s in charge of the College of Cardinals. It’s a very high position within the Vatican structure. But I think he, as he says to one of the cardinals, ‘I’ve had problems with prayer. I was thinking of leaving the Vatican … possibly leaving the church even,'” says Fiennes in the Conclave video.
“I think he’s riven with doubt, doubts, and questions in an organization where it is not anticipated that you should have doubts. What happens is a man of doubts, of contradictions, is suddenly not only running the show of the conclave, he’s suddenly getting votes himself because of something he says. So he’s got all these things coming at him from within and from without. All that stuff makes the role a fizzy and exciting proposition to play.”

“Based on the critically acclaimed, best-selling book of the same name, Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting the new pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope’s wake, secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church,” says the synopsis.
