Last week, PlayStation put on its first State of Play showcase of the year, giving us a better look at a handful of games coming out in the next 12 months. One of these titles was Silent Hill 2 Remake, and while it was nice to get some gameplay footage for the first time, a lot of fans of the original game descended upon the trailer to criticize its heavy use of combat, something which isn't particularly associated with the Silent Hill series.
It was a divisive trailer, with some claiming it as proof Bloober Team didn't understand the source material, while others argued the developer was simply showing off the aspect of the original Silent Hill 2 that needed improving the most. Surprisingly enough, it seems as though Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno agrees with the former group of fans, as even he wasn't particularly thrilled about the footage that was shown off during the show.
In an interview with Inwestorzy.TV (thanks Eurogamer) that seems to have been made private, Babieno said that he understands where all the criticism is coming from regarding Silent Hill 2 Remake's recent trailer and that it didn't "reflect the spirit of the game". He goes on to explain that Bloober Team isn't in charge of the marketing of Silent Hill 2 Remake and that publisher Konami is "entirely responsible", implying it was Konami which edited and submitted the trailer to be shown off by PlayStation.
This trailer certainly does not reflect the spirit of the game. This is neither the spirit of what once was nor the spirit of what we are creating now.
To try and reassure fans that may be worried about the state of Silent Hill 2 Remake, Babieno thinks that when players actually see real gameplay and "a real game", they'll change their mind and come around the Bloober Team's vision. Those remarks are particularly interesting, as it was rumored after the trailer went live that the footage shown off was from an old build of the game.
