At the beginning of the , players will be subjected to a complicated, lengthy quiz that determines their protagonist's personality throughout the game. Personality doesn't determine anything about the story, but rather informs your character's stats. The personality they're assigned with gives them a percentage-based boost to their strength, agility, vitality, intelligence, and luck — all stats that become vastly important later on, when dealing with the intricacies of 's Vocation system.
However, this isn't a run-of-the-mill personality quiz where each of your answers assigns points to one of multiple categories that'll eventually add up to tell you, say, which character you are. Instead, 's personality quiz functions more like a hidden novel, in which each answer you give will skip ahead to a related question further down the line. At the end of it all, you'll be dropped into a particular scenario pertaining to the answers you gave, your performance in which will determine your personality.
When you first boot up ,you'll always be treated to one of the same five opening questions. Each of these is fairly generic and broad. The table below displays the five starting questions and the later questions they direct you to.
