NVIDIA DLSS 3 is available today in Forza Horizon 5 with the game's latest update that prepares the racing title for the Rally Adventure expansion due to release tomorrow.
Forza Horizon 5 launched in late 2021 for PC and Xbox consoles, but it remains an extremely popular game to this day, which explains some big tech features added after launch by Playground. The open world racing game only had Temporal Antialiasing (TAA) until November, when the developers introduced NVIDIA DLSS 2 (now called Super Resolution) and AMD FSR 2 support. At the same time, they also extended the ray-traced reflections, previously only enabled in the garage, to the actual races.
Open world games often run into CPU limitations, however, and regular upscalers like DLSS 2 or FSR 2 can't be of much help with that. That's where DLSS 3 (and the upcoming FSR 3, according to AMD) come in, adding entirely new frames generated independently of the CPU.
According to the official NVIDIA benchmarks, DLSS 3 allows all GeForce RTX 40 GPUs to break 120 frames per second on average with a resolution of 4K and DLSS Super Resolution set to Performance Mode. More specifically, the RTX 4070Ti measures 125 FPS, the RTX 4080 is at nearly 148 FPS, and the RTX 4090 run almost at 190 FPS.
At 1440p, with DLSS 3 on and Super Resolution set to Quality, the RTX 4070Ti averages 175 FPS, while the RTX 4080 breaks the 200 FPS threshold, and the RTX 4090 isn't far from averaging 240 FPS. Obviously, these results were grabbed at max settings and with ray traced reflections set to extreme.
Even those who would rather avoid the slight increase in latency caused by Frame Generation can benefit from the DLSS 3 update since it also adds Reflex as a separate option. To get the optimal
