Gameloft has officially launched Disney Speedstorm season 7 “Sugar Rush” which introduces a wealth of new kart racing content based on Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph series.
Now available in-game, there are 5 new playable racers to unlock, 6 new circuits to race on, and a whole host of auxiliary Wreck-It Ralph characters waiting to be recruited into your pit crew.
Disney Speedstorm season 7 marks a significant milestone for the Mario Kart competitor. Not only has Gameloft just celebrated its first anniversary since launch, the developers have also reworked a number of core game systems.
Chief among these is how players level up their racers which has been greatly streamlined. Instead of collecting a complex variety of upgrade components, you’ll only need to spend tokens and racer shards. Having played Disney Speedstorm just before these changes took place, it’s definitely a massive improvement though one that doesn’t necessarily negate the game’s inherent free-to-play grind.
Speedstorm’s battle passes have also changed. They will still offer free and premium “Golden” prizes, though players can no longer buy a Golden Pass using earned in-game currency: instead, you’ll need to fork out around £7.99. Not only that, Gameloft has confirmed that each season will now be split into 2 parts, which means you’ll need to purchase 2 Golden Passes in order to unlock everything they have to offer. Needless to say these changes have been controversial though Gameloft insists that these passes can be progress much faster than in the past.
Here’s what’s new this season, though please note that some content won’t be accessible until part 2 drops:
In our first hands-on with Disney Speedstorm, we deemed it a worthy rival to Nintendo’s kart-racing king, thanks to its slick looks, clever racing mechanics, and giving each Disney star their own unique power-ups. With season 7 now live, we’ll be revisiting the game for a pit stop review. You can play the game for free on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series
