Treasure maps in are sketches of landmarks throughout the map that lead Arthur to treasure. Some of these treasure maps can be hard to find when all the rocks and trees blur together. Chapter 2 features a treasure map Arthur loots off Chick Matthews, who owes money to the gang.
Chick's treasure map is one of the first treasure maps you'll come across in 's story mode. It's designed to ease players into deciphering future treasure maps, but it lacks a precise map marker and has a time limit. This means you can permanently fail this mission if you don't find the treasure quickly enough.
Six different Gang Hideouts can all be found in different locations in Red Dead Redemption 2, with a bonus seventh camp also available to track down.
Chick Matthews appears in the Chapter 2 quest, "" when Leopold Strauss sends Arthur out to collect a debt from the ranch hand. Chick can be found on Guthrie Ranch, just south of the Heartland Overflow in the Heartlands. When you arrive at Guthrie Ranch and ask around for Chick, you'll find him attempting to flee on his horse.
Simply chase Chick down and lasso him, and he'll tell you he hid his money in a tree. Loot him, and you'll collect Chick's treasure map. Since you can fail this mission by waiting around too long, make sure youhead out to the location of Chick Matthews' treasure quickly. After all, it's not too far away. Hop on one of the best horses in as soon as possible and collect Chick's debt to the gang.
If reading the map confuses you, here is how a treasure map in is structured: each step to the map has a small Roman numeral marking the order in which you'll encounter each step. This treasure map shows the tree's general location first, then what the tree looks like, before pointing you to the hollow. The first sketch is the key to finding where the treasure is located on the map.
