Diablo IV offers plenty of ways to customize your character and your gear. Among these is the ability to socket gems into gear to increase their capabilities and make them more effective, even if their level is lower than that of other pieces of equipment.
Thankfully, socketed gems can be recovered, but you will need a bit of gold to take advantage of the jeweler's services. By doing things in a slightly different way, however, you can get your gem back while saving plenty of gold.
As mentioned above, you can remove socketed gems in Diablo IV by speaking with the jeweler in any of the cities around Sanctuary and spending gold. This is the primary way to get back any gem, but this is not the only way. It's actually the less effective way to do so, as you may end up spending huge amounts of gold, especially if you like socketing gems into gear.
To remove socketed gems and save some serious gold in Diablo IV, all you need to do is salvage the piece of gear they are socketed into by any blacksmith. Just pick the piece of gear from your inventory and salvage it like you would do any other piece of gear. By doing this, not only will you get additional materials with which to upgrade gear, but you will also get the socketed gems back, and for far less than by doing so at the jeweler. As the game never tells you this, many end up spending too much gold to get back their gems, but by using this small salvaging trick, you can use the gold you obtained during your journey for much more meaningful things than removing socketed gems.
