With the recent buffs to Nightmare Dungeons and the reveal of how to obtain the game's rarest Uniques, many players have begun heavily farming this endgame feature. As a result, we've noticed something odd: it seems like the affixes of a Nightmare Dungeon are being incorrectly applied to non-enemies, namely Critters that inhabit the zone.
Nightmare Dungeon Experience Massively Increased in Diablo 4 Diablo 4 Patch 1.0.3 Notes How to Obtain the Diablo 4 Chase Uniques Primarily noticed with the Avenger and Death Pulse affixes, it appears that when an affix is applied via a Nightmare Sigil, any «living» thing within the dungeon can be affected. Boxes, barrels, and breakables seem to be safe — at least with the affixes we experimented with.Death Pulse is the much more obvious interaction between the two: you can clearly see that by killing the snake, with no enemies close enough to have been hit, the affix activates.Avenger, however, seems to function a bit differently: while you can see critters affected by the red glow which indicates they have the Avenger affix, killing them doesn't seem to empower enemies.
In short, the affix has been applied to the critter, but isn't triggering its effect (meanwhile, the death of a small spider clearly does activate Avenger): We're unsure if this behavior is intended, although we believe it may not be — it adds an additional layer of difficulty to a dungeon by triggering affixes off sources that, in most situations, are essentially invisible to players who are locked in the thick of combat. After all, who's going to notice the tiny frog at the edge of their AoE range when they're facing four Elites? Have you noticed any other affix interactions with critters? Let us know in the comments
