Games losing their multiplayer components years on from their releases is far from an uncommon occurrence, and another nearly-decade-old game’s servers will soon be shutting down- on some platforms, at any rate.
FromSoftware has announced via the official Dark Souls Twitter account that the online servers for Dark Souls 2’s PS3 and Xbox 360 servers will be shutting down a little over three months from now, on March 31, 2024, at 5 AM Pacific Time.
That means players on those platforms will no longer be able to play online past that date, though single player will, of course, remain unaffected. Meanwhile, FromSoftware has also confirmed that the game’s online servers on PS4, Xbox One, and PC will remain unaffected.
For a game that’s nearly a decade old and likely has a very small portion of its player base on PS3 and Xbox 360, this doesn’t necessarily come as shocking news.
The servers will close at 5:00 PDT | 14:00 CEST | 21:00 JST.
Thank you for your comprehension and support.
