Bruce Wayne’s first Batman gadget, a pair of bladed gauntlets, repeatedly proved to be his secret weapon in Christopher Nolan’s critically-acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy. The gauntlets preceded Wayne’s Batman identity, originating as a melee weapon employed by the League of Shadows’ ninjas. When working on his Batsuits alongside his allies, like Lucius Fox and Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne kept the League gauntlets but upgraded them with his company’s technology, turning them into one of his most effective gadgets.
The Dark Knight Trilogy features one of the most realistic interpretations of the Batman mythos on film, especially when it comes to the Caped Crusader’s gear. In Batman Begins, Batman’s suit is shown being constructed piece-be piece, with rejected experimental military gear from Wayne Enterprises serving as the basis for the suit. In The Dark Knight, Batman receives a new Batsuit which is lighter and less restrictive though more vulnerable as a result. With each new suit, Batman’s gauntlets become more advanced.

Batman’s gauntlets are first shown in Batman Begins during his training under Henri Ducard (who is secretly Ra's al Ghul, the League’s leader). In the film’s third act, Batman blocks al Ghul’s sword with the gauntlets but demonstrates that his are superior to the League’s when he breaks his former mentor’s sword. Batman’s second suit, shown in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, improves the gauntlets even further, making their blades retractable while doubling as a hidden ranged weapon.
