Warning: spoilers for Batman Annual 2022 #1 are ahead!
One of the longest-standing superhero comparisons among fans is Batman versus Daredevil, as both are brooding, cowl-wearing ninjas of the night who refuse to kill and instead use their fists to deliver brutal justice to those who would commit acts of evil in their cities. Given the similarities, fans can’t help but argue over which hero is better between the two–not stronger or more skilled, but who has better earned their superhero title. After taking a look into their respective pasts, it’s clear that Daredevil is the better hero, and Batman’s first costume proves it.
Bruce Wayne began his journey as Batman after his parents were gunned down right in front of him in the darkest corner of Gotham City. As he grew up, Bruce used the wealth his parents left him to travel the world and learn every martial art known to man. Matt Murdock had a similar evolution as a hero, losing his father at a young age with the added tragedy of losing his sight as well. After finishing his training with his teacher, Stick--during which time Matt mastered his fighting style as well as learned how to control his heightened senses--Murdock took to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen and began establishing himself as a symbol of fear in the hearts of criminals just as Batman had done in Gotham City.
