Publisher Sega, in association with developer Relic Entertainment, has announced that wartime strategy sequel Company of Heroes 3 will be making its debut on PS5 and Xbox Series X on May 30, following on from its initial PC release in February of this year.
This will be the first time that the lauded strategy series will be made available on console platforms, with Relic promising a fully optimized experience for PlayStation and Xbox players. Company of Heroes 3 will feature a fully overhauled U.I. and control system designed especially for the console platforms, with in-game features such as Full Tactical Pause allowing players to masterfully control their troops in the thick of the action, unperturbed by the lack of mouse & keyboard control systems.
Set against the backdrop of the North African campaign of World War II, Company of Heroes 3 offers up new solo and multiplayer game modes, as well as the new, sandbox-style, Italian campaign. Unfortunately, reviews were incredibly divisive for the ambitious new release, and while many praised the sequel’s new control features and highly impressive destruction physics, some critics complained that the title didn’t do enough to recreate the intensity of battle, with weak A.I. opposition and a casual approach to moment-to-moment warfare.
Fortunately, the community has been utilizing the feedback forum to discuss the title’s issues with developers. So, hopefully, there will be time and opportunity to polish the game’s rougher edges.
Company of Heroes 3 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X May 30. It is available right now on PC.
