Activision has announced the dates for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta, which will take place across two weekends in late August and early September.
The first weekend is for those who have pre-ordered the game across PlayStation, Xbox and PC – there’s no timed platform exclusivity anymore – as well as for Game Pass subscribers, and will take place from Friday 30th August until Wednesday 4th September.
Weekend two is then the open beta. Available for all and sundry across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, this runs from Friday 6th September to Monday 9th September.
The two weekends will come after the big info dump of Call of Duty: Next on 28th August, as Activision dive even deeper into what the next Call of Duty game will feature. The beta weekends will give players a chance to experience the new Omnimovement system, as well as other gameplay tweaks and changes to the COD formula, and feature a selection of the new maps that Treyarch have built. You’ll also have a limited ability to create your own loadouts, try out weapons, equipment and Perks, and sample several modes.
More details on what the beta will feature will be revealed in the next few weeks, and Activision have some rewards for participating.
Black Ops 6 leans into all of the usual tropes and expectations of Black Ops series, with double crossing subterfuge and more through the campaign, set in the 1990s after the end of the Cold War. George HW Bush is President, and there’s lies and more swirling around that you’ll dip your toes into.
COD: Black Ops 6 is coming out on 25th October, and will remain a cross-generation release across PS5 and PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and PC. It will also launch straight into Xbox Game Pass, though with the caveat that Microsoft is shaking up the subscription service tiers so you’ll need Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass to get day one games.
