Arcane had a great showing in raiding during Dragonflight but was fairly absent from dungeons, I want to focus on where I see the spec headed for The War Within, some of the deficiencies in the talent rework, and, above all else, a comparison of the hero talent trees. What they bring aesthetically, thematically, and mechanically to Arcane's broader toolkit.
If you don't want to read the below, I can summarize it here: Arcane is simply fun. It is not insanely overpowered mechanically or anything, but it has a flow that, once you tap into it, feels rewarding with every cast. This is really true for both hero specs and in interestingly different ways that both shine on. Overall the talent rework was mostly a success. If you were intimidated by Arcane in prior expansions because it had an over-abundance of minmaxing, you might fall in love with the new Arcane.
In The War Within, Arcane Mages will have the choice between Sunfury and Spellslinger for our hero talents. Sunfury is based on the theme of Kael'thas Sunstrider and the Sunfury armies who followed him. while Spellslinger is about slingin' spells and conjuring fragments of magic to do additional damage. Both of these have amazing visual identities
