The MMORPG Camelot Unchained, funded through Kickstarter nearly eleven years ago with $2.2 million, will finally be released late next year. The news comes today from developer City State Entertainment, which is rebranding as Unchained Entertainment.
The studio founded by veteran Mark Jacobs of Mythic Entertainment fame (Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online) has recently received new investments by A16Z GAMES, Island Capital, and The Lauder Family, allowing Unchained Entertainment to ramp up its hiring and publishing efforts not only for Camelot Unchained but also for the spin-off multiplayer co-op PvE hack and slasher action game Final Stand: Ragnarok slated to re-launch next month in early access.
Both games are powered by the proprietary Unchained Engine, which promises to deliver battles of unprecedented scale to online games with thousands of real players while maintaining solid frame rate even on old PCs. The engine will also be available via licensing. Mark Jacobs, President and CEO of Unchained Entertainment, said in a statement:
The Unchained Engine is realizing a dream I’ve been obsessing over for more than 30 years. Our engine delivers massive battles similar to those seen in major Hollywood productions like Lord of the Rings to video games where thousands of real players interact and share an epic experience in real time.
