The upcoming movie from Marvel Studios has added yet another writer, as The Hollywood Reporter notes that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has joined the film.
Pizzolatto will be working off of a draft of the script that writer Michael Starrbury wrote, according to the report. The movie will also reunite the True Detective creator with actor Mahershala Ali, who will star as Blade and also starred in Season 3 of the hit HBO drama.
The film, which is directed by Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country), is expected to begin production sometime later this month, with filming set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
Not too much is known about Blade as of now, but the film will star Mahershala Ali in the titular role alongside the recently announced Mia Goth, who is rumored to be playing the role of Lilith.
Blade‘s production had a turbulent period late last year, with director Bassim Tariq leaving the project in September. Originally set to release on November 3, 2023, the movie ended up being delayed to September 6, 2024.
The film is set to be part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will also contain Captain America: New World Order and Daredevil: Born Again.
The Blade trilogy from New Line Cinema helped shepherd comic books and superheroes to the big screen. Combined, the three films brought in over $400 million at the global box office. Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan as a supporting character in the comic book The Tomb of Dracula #10 in July 1973.
