Jodie Comer was rumored to be leading the, but a recent report suggests that she is no longer attached to the project.
During the latest episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, Above the Line’s Jeff Sneider — who initially reported that Comer was in talks to star in the series — said that he had heard Comer was “no longer doing the Blade Runner series.”
“Sorry, everybody. Sorry to get everybody’s hopes up, but I heard Jodie Comer is out of that,” said Sneider.
Sneider and podcast co-host John Rocha went on to speculate on why Comer was no longer attached to the Blade Runner 2099 cast, with Rocha mentioning that it could have something to do with the fact that Comer was rumored to play Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four film. Sneider said he wasn’t sure about that but did note that Comer fits “the model” for what Marvel Studios is looking for.
Currently, plot details on Blade Runner 2099 are being kept under wraps, but it seems as if the sequel will take place at least 50 years after the sequel, which itself took place 30 years after the original Blade Runner.
Blade Runner 2049 was released in theaters in 2017 and was directed by Denis Villeneuve, with stars Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos reprising their roles from the original. 2049 also starred Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, and Dave Bautista.
