The Super Mario Bros Movie has become the highest-grossing cinema release of all time in Mexico.
The Illumination and Nintendo co-production has broken numerous records since it released in most regions on April 7, and continues to bring in global box office revenue more than a month after its release.
Box Office Mojo‘s records, which at the time of writing go up to the weekend of May 5-7, had the film’s Mexican gross sitting at $80.4 million, slightly under the country’s all-time record of $81.156 million for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Now, according to a tweet by Box Office Report, the weekend of May 12-14 has reportedly pushed the film past Spider-Man’s record, with a total estimated gross now sitting at $82.4 million.
It’s the latest notable achievement by what’s comfortably been the biggest film of 2023 so far.
The Super Mario Bros Movie currently stands at a worldwide gross of $1.2 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. This makes it just the 10th animated film to cross the $1 billion mark.
It’s also currently the 23rd highest-grossing movie of all time, ahead of such movies as The Lord of the Rings series, The Dark Knight Rises, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Toy Story 3.
