Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t allow players to preload the game, despite it being 122GB.
Developer Larian has confirmed that all players, even those who’ve been playing the game in early access, will have to re-install the full game, which clocks in at around 122GB.
“The full release of the game weighs in at approximately 122 GB. Please note that your Early Access save games will not be compatible at launch; however, so much has changed that it’s really worth it to start afresh,” Larian wrote on Steam.
Larian also provided a confirmed list of the global launch times for the game. “Baldur’s Gate 3 will launch on August 3rd at 5pm Gent time, or your non-Belgian timezone equivalent as shown above. There will be no pre-loading of the game before then,” Larian wrote.
It’s also been confirmed that the game will run on Steam Deck at launch, and Larian is “aiming” for the game to be Steam Deck verified by the game’s launch on Thursday, August 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will release on PC later this week, and on PS5 next month. Larian has suggested that the Xbox version may not launch until 2024.
Writing on Twitter, Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse seemed to imply that the issues relating to launching the game on Microsoft‘s platform may not be resolved until next year.
“We have quite a few engineers working very hard to do what no other RPG of this scale has achieved: seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op on Series S,” Douse wrote. “We hope to have an update by the end of the year.”
