There are a couple of pretty evil playable paths in Baldur's Gate 3. You can play as Astarion, side with Minthara, ascend after ripping away Cazador's power, and take control of the Absolute for yourself. Or you can play as the Dark Urge and give into every twisted impulse, reaching the city by climbing a mountain of corpses. But modders are taking things a step further, letting us play as the big bad trio themselves.
Developed by oilnarak01, the mod is called "Playable Dead Three". They come with their iconic gear, but you can choose to discard it if it makes things too easy. As for how these three got kidnapped by the mind flayers they control, Durge rules apply - they were betrayed. However, the mod page doesn't say how it impacts Act 3, so it might be that you run into a doppelganger later on.
You can even transform into Orin's Slayer form, utilising her boss fight's abilities for your own gain.
There are other ways to bring the Dead Three into your party besides playing as them, if you just want their company while you get into scraps. Modder flymmsy added Gortash as a hireling you can summon via Withers, which I'd like to imagine means he gets plucked from his office in Baldur's Gate without warning and thrown into the Shadowlands, forced to help us reluctantly fight Thorms.
If the Dead Three as a whole isn't enough, then there's a very handy mod called, "Recruit any NPC". This lets you make anyone a playable character, adding them to your party. You can even recruit the dead. It's done via two in-game spells - one recruits a character, and the other tells them to go away. It's a bit of a cheat, however, since you can recruit traders and then pilfer their inventories without paying a gold penny.
The spells also ignore party limit, so you can feasibly recruit everyone you meet on your adventure to build the ultimate army, ready to defeat the Absolute by simply overwhelming it. We even see the steampunk guard robot helping the gang out, right next to a slouched
