Star Wars Jedi actor Cameron Monaghan says he’d like to reprise his role as Cal Kestis in a live-action Star Wars project, but only if it “makes sense”.
As reported by The Direct, Monaghan – who played Cal in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – took part in a panel about his career at FanExpo Vancouver 2024 on Saturday.
During the panel, Monaghan was asked if he’d like to play the character of Cal in a live-action film or TV series.
While in previous years Monaghan had said he wanted to focus on the character’s story arc in the video game series, this time he was more open to the idea of a live-action appearance, but only if it was a notable one, instead of a cameo or some other sort of fan service.
“It would have to be right,” Monaghan replied. “By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way.
“I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there. I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself.
“So it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.”
Last September, Monaghan said during Ocala Comic Con that he was “working on a third” entry in the Star Wars Jedi series.
Monaghan’s announcement came only shortly before Stig Asmussen, the director of both Star Wars Jedi games, announced that he was leaving developer Respawn Entertainment.
Before he left, Asmussen had said he had hoped to make a third Star Wars Jedi game because he always envisaged it as a three-game story arc.
“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he told IGN in February 2023 while discussing the second game, Jedi: Survivor. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?
“We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Jedi: Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that.
