Tetris 99's popularity has been maintained thanks to the various Maximus Cup events that run every few months, which give players the chance to earn cosmetic rewards and themed backgrounds that are based on other popular Nintendo Switch games, such as the Super Mario RPG remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, just to name a few. Despite that, the game hasn't had many big updates, aside from the new modes added in version 2.1.0, which was during its 2019 launch year.
This new update for Tetris 99 upgrades the game's version from 2.3.0 to 2.4.0. The update itself is rather light on details, simply stating that various adjustments have been made to improve the game's experience. It makes a note that this version of the is compatible with versions 2.1.0 to 2.3.0, and that players can still use Tetris 99's local arena mode. This update is available for download right now.
For reference, the last Tetris 99 update was released in April 2022, which similarly was light on details about what was updated, stating that «several issues» were addressed to improve the game.
