Respawn Entertainment introduced a new beloved character to the Star Wars universe with Cal Kestis, the protagonist of the acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor action/adventure games.
Following the release of these titles, Cal quickly became a fan favorite partly thanks to the performance of actor Cameron Monaghan, for which he was nominated at the NAVGTR Awards (for Fallen Order) and Golden Joystick and The Game Awards (for Survivor). The character was also featured in a prequel novel published before the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
In June 2022, it was even rumored that Cameron Monaghan would play Cal Kestis in a Disney+ live-action series. That hasn't come to pass yet, but the actor is interested in the possibility, albeit with some caveats. Speaking on a panel called 'Finding the Path' at Fan Expo Vancouver 2024 this past Saturday, Monaghan said (via The Direct):
It would have to be right. By that, I mean it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don't want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there. I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.
It sounds like Monaghan wouldn't fancy a mere Cal Kestis cameo, whereas he'd be interested in being featured as a prominent character. Of course, it all depends on Disney. There are a couple of shows set in the Star Wars timeline where Kestis could conceivably appear, such as Andor or Obi-Wan: Kenobi.
Whether or not Cal Kestis ever makes his live-action debut, he's definitely coming back for a third Star Wars Jedi game, as Monaghan himself revealed a few months ago during another convention.
