Fable might be with us sooner than expected, with the series revival reportedly aiming to launch in 2025. If true, we could be in for another big trailer this summer, following on from the more extensive look at the game we got last year.
This is according to industry insider NateTheHate, who says that this 2025 release window was shared with him last year. Even if this claim is true, there's always the possibility that the launch window has been pushed back since then, but it would seem to be in line with what we've seen of the game so far, with the project coming a long way since its teaser trailer in 2020.
NateTheHate's claim comes from a ResetEra thread, in which he responds to someone asking if Fable will be with us in 2025. "That was the last target I had heard sometime last year," he replied, indicating that this is the internal release window over at developer Playground Games.
In the same post, Nate also claimed that the next Banjo-Kazooie game is being “ reworked from its original vision and scope ", but that the changes are "for the better".
While this means we could be in for some news soon, Fable fans have already been incredibly patient. Famously, we haven't had a Fable game since its original developer, Lionhead, was shut down by Microsoft in 2016. Former Xbox higher-up Shannon Loftis previously said that shutting down the studio was one of Microsoft's "biggest missteps", so it's not too surprising to see it push the new game, even if it's being made by a new team.
Last year, we reported extensively on the development of the original Fable series, featuring interviews with developers, including Peter Molyneux. Our last piece covered the development of the last mainline entry in the series, Fable 3, which is often seen as the black sheep of the trilogy. Given what we've seen from the new Fable game, Playground isn't following on from Fable 3 and is stepping back into the quirky, more fairytale setting of the first game in the series.
