Baldur's Gate 3 is getting its fifth major update this week. While details are scarce on what exactly the patch will contain, those of you who love Astarion (which is a lot, going by TikTok and Reddit) will be happy to know that kissing him is about to get a lot less buggy.
Earlier this month, Patch 4 was released. However, it made the game laggier and even broke Astarion's kisses. When people went in for a peck, he kept missing their lips. A for effort, Astarion.
"We're aiming to release Patch 5 this week, which fixes the eternally active thefts & violence causing slowdowns, introduced in the previous patch," Larian tweeted. "It also fixes Astarion's little kisses, and more! There's a lot coming with Patch 5. While it's cooking, we're preparing a community update that talks about some new features coming to Baldur's Gate 3."
Director of publishing Michael Douse explained that the slowdown issues "were caused by a specific bug in Moonrise that caused a systemic error that stacked over time, which means the further you got the worse it got." This was in reply to a commenter who expressed hopes that Act 3 would be "fixed", to which Douse said, "Yes."
Players have been reporting a whole host of issues with Act 3 since it was made buggier by the last major update, even sparking a hotfix for the fix. But bigger patches should be with us this week.
"The entire environment in Act 3 [has] shut down," one Larian forums user said. "Companions do not follow Tav, NPCs walk in place or completely vanish, unable to interact with anyone or anything, unable to select different companions, cannot save, and cannot reload. The lag will resolve for about 15 seconds every ten minutes."
