Although it somewhat resembles the top half of a suit of armor, it's technically classified as a piece of clothing. Player characters can wear both clothes and armor at the same time, with each piece potentially providing a wide range of Armor Class boosts and unique effects. The Moon Devotion Robe is obtainable beginning in Act Two of, and can be encountered as part of the main quest. However, getting it can completely change how the ensuing section of the game plays out.
In short, getting the Moon Devotion Robe always requires killing Isobel. A half-elf cleric, Isobel is responsible for casting the protective spell that keeps the Last Light Inn and its residents safe from a shadow curse. Players are first directed to speak with her so they can receive a measure of her protection, but doing so can trigger a pretty tough fight. Getting Isobel's protection isn't strictly necessary to progress the main quest, as there are other ways to ward off the shadow curse, but killing her is required if the party wants to collect her robe.
