The Mysterious Artefact is pivotal in helping stave off the tentacle cravings in Baldur's Gate 3, but what if was also an Xbox controller?
That's what Twitch streamer Rudeism has brought to life, creating a real Mysterious Artefact (Guardian sold separately) which has 20 button prompts and a motion sensor to simulate the thumbsticks.
Completely unrelated but these are the games I'd imagine the party would play; Gale would absolutely love Dragon Age, Shadowheart would be more of a Mass Effect girly, and Astarion would probably gravitate towards Stardew Valley, though he'd never admit it.
As reported by IGN, it took five months to bring this project to life (it was originally planned to be ready before The Game Awards) and now he's playing through the entire game while using it.
Right off the bat, we find Shadowheart clutching this strange iron box. The githyanki are desperately searching for it, and our Guardian pulls us into it when we sleep.
It even has 20 sides like a D20.
No matter what, by the end of Act 1, we end up in possession of the artefact. If you were to give it up at any point to the githyanki, you'd die. The Guardian inside is the only thing preventing you from turning into a mind flayer.
Spoilers for Act 3.
We later find out that the artefact is also housing Orpheus, a githyanki prodigy thought to be dead. It's through him that the Guardian can prevent us from transforming, though if we choose to betray our Guardian--AKA the Emperor--Orpheus will continue to help us.
I wouldn't advise using it as an Xbox controller, it seems a bit clunky. But for Twitch streamers who thrive on bizarre challenge runs, it's a work of art.
Baldur's Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
