Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom is rumored to involve Arthur and Mera's son, who has a tragic history in DC Comics. The sequel to James Wan's Aquaman could prove to be far darker than anything even Zack Snyder produced for the franchise. The sequel will expand on Aquaman's worldbuilding and take audiences deeper into the depths of Aquaman's city of Atlantis and beyond. The film was initially scheduled to release on the same day as its fiercest competition, James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, on December 16th, 2022. However, Warner Brothers came to its senses, and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom will now release on March 17th, 2023. With the rumor of Arthur and Mera having a son in the sequel, the two movies' similarities may not only be an underwater setting but a theme of family as well.
