Deadpool star Ed Skrein has been announced as the replacement for Rupert Friend in the upcoming Zack Snyder film Rebel Moon. Bringing his epic direction style to Netflix, the filmmaker behind 300, Army of the Dead, and Zack Snyder's Justice League is now heading to space for an action-packed, intergalactic drama. The Rebel Moon cast has added several new members in addition to Skrein, including Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, and Rhian Rees.
According to Deadline, Friend exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Replacing Rebel Moon's primary antagonist, Skrein adopts the role of Regent Balisarius, a conqueror whose rule extends across the galaxy and now threatens a peaceful colony on the outskirts of space. Details about the villain have not been released beyond the initial story premise, but the update does suggest that the production is finalizing the cast as filming begins.

A first look from Snyder's Rebel Moon set showed off the rugged General Titus (Hounsou) and various set pieces, and fans are already drawing comparisons to several other films, including Star Wars and Dune. Although the film was previously pitched as a Star Wars installment, Snyder hopes Rebel Moon earns its own place at Netflix and develops into a franchise. It has not yet been revealed who Coleman, Fee, and Rees will portray in the Rebel Moon universe. Along with Skrein, the ensemble cast also features Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman and Alfonso Herrera.
