Kevin Feige seriously considered leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take over DC during Phase 2. After years of working on and producing Marvel movies for other studios, Feige was put in charge of Marvel Studios in the mid-2000s to begin developing a new slate of films featuring «B-list» characters. Thanks to his guidance, Marvel Studios and the MCU have become a staple of Hollywood for the last decade. The MCU movies have earned over $26 billion at the box office worldwide and the studio's recent expansion to the small screen with Disney+ has further shown what the shared universe is capable of accomplishing.
At the same time that the MCU has flourished, Warner Bros. wanted to recreate this success with their DC Comics characters on the big screen. Man of Steel was meant to help kick off a shared universe, but divisive films, a revolving door of executives, and Zack Snyder's eventual exit led to the DC Extended Universe pivoting its future after Justice League was released. The DC movies have since found their footing by going away from directly competing with the heavily connected storytelling Marvel has seemingly mastered under Feige's leadership. And while Feige is now seen as an irreplaceable leader for Marvel Studios moving into Phase 4 and someone who might never leave, that wasn't always the case.

Back during Phase 2, it was no secret that Feige began to grow unhappy due to the oversight of Marvel Entertainment's CEO Ike Perlmutter, who was Feige's direct superior.
